It’s not turn-based but there is actually a game that is 100% this.
It’s called Kingsway, and it’s an active-time-battle roguelite. And it’s designed to look AND PLAY like windows 95. And I don’t mean it plays like a windows 95 game, I mean it plays like the operating system itself. Window management is a key part of the game! Often you have to juggle many windows and pop-ups to avoid getting hit or curses or whatever.
Like, when they cast a curse on you, it pops up as a small dialog box, often behind the main window, and you have only a few seconds to click AVOID to it.
The game doesn’t pause when you do inventory management, and you often have to manage a lot of bags at once. That’s hard to do in real-time, since each one is a separate window. The game uses the Windows 95 UI as part of the difficulty!
It’s a lot of fun and I highly recommend trying it out. Currently 10$ on steam, often drops down to like 5$ when there’s a sale. Check it out.
I was SUPER obsessed with Kingsway for a while about a year ago, so let me share one of my fav features :)
Kingsway not only lets you create your own character like most games, but features a lil avatar uploader! You can sprite your own headshot or whatever you want! Here’s my gal ~
this is to the guy in the electronics department at walmart who when I approached and said “game” because it was the only word that would come to me, went “yeah” and walked me straight to tears of the kingdom, no questions asked
my favourite sims 3 crash was the time I made beavis and butthead and I made them go around to all the houses, ring the doorbells and prank people and then I got to one house and when I rang the doorbell clones of themselves came to the door and when they met the game crashed
Never forget, if someone asks you an invasive question, you can always reply by asking them “do you think that’s a normal thing to ask people?”
Do it in a super casual and cheery tone, like you were asking about their favourite food.
Yeah I’m just not doing that. I don’t need the job that much.
comments by @autumntides :
It is illegal in the United States (violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 and the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, and the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (Title I and V)) to require a photograph or other image in a job application outside of direct unavoidable relevance (modeling and acting work).
“In the instance an employer makes an illegal request for a photograph as part of a job application, you may submit a complaint to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.”
Successful violation fee collections are paid partially to the one who suffered the violation, which in many cases exceeds a year of work at these shit jobs. There’s only two weak points to a corporation, and those are in the budget and in the supply chain. Hit them where it hurts.
my dad, trying to explain the concept of money to me: say you have a sandwich, and i need your sandwich. but i don’t have anything to give you. you’re not just gonna give it to me.
me: i would just give it to you.
my dad:
in elementary school we had. basically an immersive economics lesson that was “playing City,” with different jobs and businesses; it was mostly semi-free time for socializing and selling/buying toys and snacks from each other. one of the lessons we were supposed to learn was the importance of paying a small amount of money into health and/or business insurance, because you had a chance of being hit with the Daily Disaster and a huge bill.
anyway, some kid who didn’t buy insurance got hit with a “medical bill” early on, so he was supposed to be bankrupt and have to sit the rest of the game out. the 8 year olds were not having it and spontaneously invented crowdfunding so he could keep playing with everyone else.
kids who don’t ‘get it’ are right, actually
endlessly, morbidly fascinated by how when you’re a kid you’re constantly having parents, school, religion, media, all drumming it into your head that Sharing Is Good And You Need To Do It, and then you grow up and suddenly they’re all like right never mind all that, this is The Real World and it’s every bastard for himself
If you had shown me this site in 2005 I would have asked you if had checked your virus software lately, because this looks like a bad one. I would have clicked away so fast it would give you whiplash. Looking at these sites now, I have to convince myself that they aren’t virus laden sites and fight against the pavlovian urge to just navigate away.
I navigate away anyways because fuck them, there’s usually a better site (though they are dwindling quickly). I still can’t get over how the internet “as intended” today looks like a malware ridden fever dream from 20 years ago. This is every story I’ve ever read about an empire that used to be great and has now fallen into turmoil.
Beloveds, there is a wonderful website that gets rid of all that crap<3
I use the goons with spoons wiki since it also has recipes without all the bs that accompanies them online.
